Trump orders Lake Ontario to be renamed 'Lake America'

President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he intends to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America, according to a statement from the White House. Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, the 80-year-old Republican declared, "We're going to be changing the name of Lake Ontario effective immediately to Lake America."

Canada has reportedly shown little interest in accepting the name change, with officials describing Trump's predecessor as "nasty people." The name alteration echoes Trump's earlier decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America in January 2025. The president stated that the idea of renaming the lake had been on his mind for some time, noting that the United States had previously renamed the Gulf of Mexico, and now he intended to complete the transformation by changing the name of the lake as well.

Trump suggested that the next logical step might be to rename the Atlantic and/or Pacific oceans, potentially adding an ocean to the list of renamed bodies of water.
