Time for the Springboks to break their All Blacks ‘centurions curse’

CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — Leroy Carter was inserted into the All Blacks lineup at left wing to replace injured Josh Moorby for the second test against South Africa this weekend. The New Zealand team, which secured a 33-16 victory over the Springboks in the opening match, made three alterations to the lineup. Loosehead prop George Bower and lock Tupou Vaa’i were the primary replacements, with Ethan de Groot and Josh Lord being sidelined due to a collision during a double tackle.

Bower, who had previously made an impact off the bench in the opening match, shines in his first test start since 2022. Vaa’i moved from the blindside flank to Simon Parker's position. Additionally, Xavier Numia and Patrick Tuipulotu joined the reserves. South Africa's team was confirmed on Monday, with captain Siya Kolisi returning following a hamstring injury, alongside four other changes.

With a victory in the upcoming test, New Zealand aims to secure at least a share of the series. Referee Angus Gardner will officiate Saturday's game, replacing Nika Amashukeli, who was unable to recover from illness. Gardner had previously presided over New Zealand's 41-35 win over the Lions on Tuesday.
