The Witcher 3 Remastered makes the original's best HD mod obsolete, but only because that same modder's been working on the real deal

The Witcher 3 Remastered has surpassed the popularity of its predecessor's best HD mod, but only because the modder behind it has been working on the actual remaster. Known as The Witcher 3 HD Reworked, this mod has been a cornerstone of the game's modding community, boasting over 325,000 unique downloads. In contrast, the OldGen version, uploaded in 2015, has amassed an astounding 1.7 million unique downloads.

CD Projekt Red has recognized the modder's talent, hiring him for The Witcher 3 Remastered, which will be officially available on September 29 for PC and consoles. With the reworked version, almost all in-game characters, monsters, animals, vegetation, armors, equipment, and a significant portion of the environment have been enhanced, making the need for The Witcher 3 HD Reworked obsolete.

The modder, HalkHogan, has confirmed his collaboration with CDPR for the remaster, ensuring the highest quality throughout. Executive producer Jakub Kutrzuba revealed that the remaster incorporates the popular Nexus mod, HD Rework, adding upgraded textures and meshes to elevate the game's visuals. During Gamescom 2026, Kutrzuba praised the remastered game, noting the stunning visual quality across all angles, whether it's the sunrise illuminating the hills or the ominous gloom of the game's dark woods.
