The Papers: 'Town gripped by fear' and 'Nepal death toll climbs'

Devastating floods on the Nepal-Tibet border have claimed at least 270 lives, with around 1,000 people still missing, according to Nepali police. The floods, which began on Wednesday morning, swept away buses, cars, and multi-story buildings, leaving residents in panic. The surge was caused by a glacial collapse, according to the US Geological Survey, resulting in a massive wall of mud and debris engulfing buildings and people.

Villages and towns along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers were hit hardest, as the walls of water and mud traveled nearly 170 kilometers down the valley. Foreign tourists were among the missing, with 177 from India, 63 from the United States, 34 from Australia, 33 from Britain, and 25 from Canada. Nepal's Prime Minister Balendra Shah visited one of the worst-affected districts to assess the situation, while the Nepali Army and Chinese authorities worked together to search for survivors.
