Australians remain among missing as Nepal death toll rises

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun expressed condolences to the Nepalese people over devastating floods that struck Rasuwa district, killing at least 165 and leaving 826 unaccounted for. The disaster also left nine South Koreans missing - six from construction firm Doosan Enerbility Co. and three from state-run Korea South-East Power Co., who were working at a hydropower plant site.

Separately, 10 Doosan workers were confirmed safe but were still awaiting evacuation. Cho discussed the matter with Nepalese Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal in a phone call, conveying condolences and emphasizing South Korea's readiness to provide $1 million in humanitarian aid. Cho requested Nepal's active support in the swift and safe search and rescue of the missing South Koreans, and asked Nepal to facilitate the work of a South Korean joint rapid response team being sent to coordinate with local authorities.

Both ministers vowed to maintain close communication and cooperation to address the flood damage and ensure the safety of South Korean nationals.
