Sunway Lagoon roller coaster accident that landed two in hospital now under Selangor police probe for possible negligence, sabotage

Shah Alam, Aug 27 — Selangor police are probing the roller coaster accident at Sunway Lagoon Theme Park last Saturday to ascertain if negligence or sabotage played a role. The investigation is being carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department and the Selangor Department of Occupational Safety and Health.

"We'll cross-check our findings to establish the cause," said Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar during a press conference at the Selangor contingent police headquarters. Two individuals remain hospitalized, though neither sustained severe injuries; the rest have been discharged or are receiving outpatient treatment. The ride has been halted while the police conduct a thorough inspection of its physical structure and control room.

Police have also recorded statements from witnesses, including park staff and the victims, to aid their probe. "We are not dismissing any new leads that emerge during the course of the investigation," Kahar added. On Monday, Subang Jaya police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat reported that 10 people sustained minor injuries in a similar roller coaster incident at a theme park on Saturday evening. A police report was filed at 11:45 am on Sunday.
