Sunway Lagoon roller coaster accident that landed two in hospital now under Selangor police probe for possible negligence, sabotage

Shah Alam, August 27 — Selangor police are thoroughly investigating a roller coaster accident at Sunway Lagoon Theme Park that left two people hospitalized to ascertain whether negligence or sabotage played a role. Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar revealed the probe is being carried out in conjunction with the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department and the Selangor Department of Occupational Safety and Health to leverage their technical expertise.

A press conference at the Selangor contingent police headquarters confirmed the two victims are receiving medical attention, though neither has sustained severe injuries; the remaining affected individuals have either been discharged or are receiving outpatient care. The ride was halted temporarily while the police conduct a comprehensive examination of the coaster's structure and control room.

Simultaneously, the police have collected statements from witnesses, such as park staff, ride attendants, and the victims, to bolster their investigation. Chief Shazeli emphasized that the probe aims to gather all relevant information and will not dismiss any emerging leads. Last Monday, Subang Jaya police announced that 10 individuals had suffered minor injuries in a similar incident, which occurred around 9 pm on the same day at the theme park. A police report was filed at 11.45 am the following day.
