Samsung built a 1,100Hz gaming monitor because apparently 600Hz wasn’t fast enough

Samsung has unveiled a 1,100Hz gaming monitor at Gamescom 2026, indicating that the previous 600Hz monitors were insufficient. The 27-inch Odyssey G6 can reach refresh rates up to 1,100Hz, surpassing the previously announced 1,040Hz maximum. However, this ultra-high refresh rate is only attainable at HD resolution; at its native QHD resolution, the monitor caps out at 600Hz.

Competitive FPS players may appreciate the trade-off between resolution and speed, but others might prefer the sharper QHD mode at 600Hz. The Odyssey G6 features a Fast IPS panel with a native resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a maximum refresh rate of 600Hz at that resolution. Samsung's Dual Mode allows the monitor to switch to HD, boosting the refresh rate to 1,100Hz and turning it into a more specialized display for speed-focused gamers.

The monitor also boasts a 1ms response time, emphasizing its appeal to esports players. However, the 1,100Hz mode may cater to a narrow audience, while the QHD 600Hz mode offers more widespread appeal. Samsung plans to release the Odyssey G6 globally in the second half of 2026, though pricing has yet to be announced. The monitor's pricing could determine its market success, with higher prices potentially relegating the 1,100Hz mode to a niche esports monitor, while more competitive pricing might make the QHD 600Hz mode appealing to a broader range of gamers.
