Onam rush: 1,500 police personnel deployed across Kochi to ensure public safety

Kochi city and its surrounding regions are currently experiencing heightened security measures as the city prepares to accommodate the influx of visitors during the Onam holiday season. To ensure public safety, the police force has deployed approximately 1,500 personnel across various locations in the city.

Strategically placed at 102 key areas, these special deployments include around 20 inspectors, 160 sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors, nearly 900 civil police officers, 80 shadow police personnel, and a company of armed police. Additionally, 30 officers from the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force have been assigned to combat drug-related activities during the festivities.

The police have intensified their patrol in areas such as bar hotels and DJ party venues, recognizing the potential for an increase in social gatherings during the holiday. To manage the expected increase in traffic, the police have set up 24 control room vehicles, four Pink Patrol vehicles, and one highway patrol vehicle, alongside regular station patrol vehicles for inspections.

In an effort to reduce traffic congestion, motorists have been urged to avoid unauthorized roadside parking and utilize the 92 designated parking spaces located throughout the city. Violators will face strict legal consequences for unauthorized parking. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or incidents by calling the emergency number 112, while information related to drug use or trafficking can be reported at 99959-66666.

The Ernakulam Rural police have also ramped up their patrolling efforts in anticipation of the festival. Residents and visitors are advised to adhere to these guidelines and report any concerns to the appropriate authorities.
