Nuwakot Bears Brunt Of Nepal Floods, PM Balendra Shah Reviews Search & Relief Operations

Prime Minister Balendra Shah visited the Army Training Centre in Battar Bazar on Thursday to assess the impact of recent flash floods in Nepal's Nuwakot district and review ongoing search and rescue operations. His visit follows the devastating floods that have left extensive damage across the country, including in the Devighat area, one of the worst-affected locations.

Nuwakot has faced widespread destruction, with roads ruptured, buildings damaged, and many neighborhoods left homeless. Residents are struggling to find food and shelter, as they await assistance from the government, as reported by Janak Bahadur Nepali. Another resident mentioned that several people are missing in Devighat, the worst-hit area of the district.

The rescue operations face significant hurdles due to the destruction of roads and bridges, with accumulated mud and rubble hindering access to the affected areas. Rescue teams have retrieved two bodies so far, and they suspect many more people may be buried under the rubble. As of Thursday, the death toll from the flash floods reached 258, while 910 people remain missing or out of contact, according to Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA).

The latest update from the NDRRMA indicates that Chitwan recorded the highest number of recovered bodies, with 108, while Rasuwa accounted for 161 missing or out-of-contact people, and one person from Nuwakot has been reported missing. The disaster has also left 517 foreign citizens missing or out of contact, along with 127 Nepali citizens living abroad who were visiting Nepal.
