Northern Cape woman arrested after drugs found hidden inside diaper

A 27-year-old woman from the Northern Cape was arrested in Augrabies on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, after police allegedly discovered dagga and tik concealed within a diaper in her diaper bag. The arrest took place after police received information from Riemvasmaak police regarding the woman's intention to purchase drugs while travelling from Vredesvallei to Augrabies with a child.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Molefi Shemane revealed that the woman's actions were intercepted when she pulled over to catch a taxi with a diaper bag, which was subsequently searched. Shemane confirmed that dagga and tik with an estimated street value of R1,800 were found concealed inside the diaper. The woman was subsequently arrested and detained at the Augrabies police station, where she is expected to appear in court soon on charges related to drug possession.

The ZF Mgcawu District Management expressed appreciation for the police officers involved in acting on the information and collaborating to remove illicit drugs from the community. They praised Riemvasmaak and Augrabies SAPS for their swift response, effective information sharing, and collaborative efforts in combating drug-related crime.

Police also acknowledged the community for its continued cooperation in providing valuable information to assist law enforcement in tackling drug-related issues.
