No charges laid after N.S. boy killed in dog attack: RCMP

Nova Scotia RCMP have announced there will be no charges laid following the tragic death of a 13-year-old boy, Drew Nickerson, who was killed in a dog attack in January. The incident occurred in Welshtown, Shelburne County, when Drew was riding his bike and was mauled by three large-breed dogs. Police have concluded their investigation and found "insufficient grounds" to lay charges against the dog owners.

Sgt. Jeff LeBlanc of the Shelburne RCMP expressed their condolences, stating, "This remains a heartbreaking incident. Our thoughts are with the youth's loved ones and everyone in the community who's been affected by this loss." The three dogs involved in the attack were identified as a two Cane Corsos and a Rottweiler, and they were subsequently euthanized.

The RCMP conducted a thorough investigation, which included analyzing video footage, interviewing witnesses and neighbors, and reviewing information from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service. The dog owners were reportedly cooperative throughout the investigation.
