Netanyahu urges Ben Gvir, Smotrich to unite as poll shows Winter’s new party surging

People of Israel party chairman Brig.-Gen. (res.) Ofer Winter stated on Thursday that he would only recommend Benjamin Netanyahu for the position of prime minister. In a video, Winter emphasized that his party does not work for any individual, but solely for the people of Israel. He further explained that their party belongs to the right-wing camp, with Netanyahu as the leader, and they would only back him.

Winter also mentioned that haredim (Ultra-Orthodox) would be integrated into the IDF, irrespective of their involvement, stating, "with the haredi activists or without them, we will not dance to anyone's tune." He further added that there would be voluntary emigration from Gaza instead of merely establishing an emigration administration, adding, "There will be a decision here, not containment."

Winter also criticized the Public Diplomacy Ministry, stating, "There will be real public diplomacy for the benefit of the State of Israel, what was will not be." Following the launch of the party, political analysts speculate that Winter is eyeing the position of defense minister and that his messages will primarily revolve around security issues and altering policies concerning haredi military service.

The party aims to gain support, particularly from right-wing voters who are disillusioned with the current administration. Some potential support may also emanate from voters who previously supported parties linked to Gadi Eisenkot and Avigdor Liberman. However, Winter made it clear that he does not desire Eisenkot to become prime minister and intends to join a broad right-wing government if possible.
