Nepal-Tibet floods: Singapore Red Cross pledges S$50,000 in aid, launches fundraising appeal

On August 27, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) announced a S$50,000 (US$39,000) humanitarian aid pledge to assist flood victims in Nepal and Tibet. Over 1,000 individuals, including nine Singaporeans, are reported missing after a massive ice, mud, and rock landslide triggered a devastating flash flood. The SRC's pledge will be utilized for distributing essential supplies such as water, tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats, first aid kits, and body bags.

A public fundraising appeal will commence on August 28 and remain open until November 30, with the collected funds being channeled through the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and other humanitarian partners. Additionally, the SRC has activated its Restoring Family Links service to reconnect Singapore residents separated from family members in Nepal and Tibet.

SRC Secretary-General and CEO Benjamin William expressed deep condolences to those who lost loved ones and extended thoughts to affected communities. The situation continues to worsen with over a thousand missing, numerous families impacted, and livelihoods severely disrupted.
