Nepal floods: 17 Malaysians among hundreds still unaccounted for

Hyderabad, August 27 — Seventeen Malaysians are among hundreds of foreigners missing after a devastating flash flood in Nepal's Rasuwa district on Monday morning, according to Nepal's tourism board. The board revealed that the missing Malaysians were under the care of the Fishtail Tours and Travels tour agency. At least 291 foreigners and 93 Nepalese remain uncontactable, and police and tour operators are working to locate them, reported in an afternoon situation update.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry disclosed via a statement that 11 Malaysian nationals believed to be in Rasuwa's district had lost contact due to the flood. The Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu is actively collaborating with local authorities. The search and rescue teams dispatched by the Nepalese government are working diligently to locate the affected Malaysians and determine their safety.

The Bhote Koshi river flood has ravaged numerous villages, demolishing roads, buildings, and hydropower projects in the Rasuwagadhi-Timure region of Nepal. Other foreigners who have lost contact comprise 142 Indians, including 37 Indian citizens residing abroad, and numerous citizens from Britain, South Africa, and the United States.
