More than 90 killed, hundreds missing after Nepal flash flood

A massive flash flood in Nepal has resulted in at least 95 deaths and hundreds of people still missing, according to authorities. Hundreds of tourists, with 291 from countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, India, and Malaysia, are also reported missing. Police spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle confirmed 95 fatalities so far, adding that 28 police personnel are also missing.

The flash flood's high waters hindered helicopter landings in the affected areas of Syapru Besi and Timure in Rasuwa district, which has a population of around 50,000. District administrator Narendra Pariyar warned residents living along the Bhote Koshi River to move to higher ground, as nearby villages and infrastructure projects were devastated.

Nepal has appealed to both India and China for assistance in the rescue efforts. Across the border, Tibet reported significant casualties with missing individuals in the Gyirong county following a mudslide that damaged a land crossing between China and Nepal. The Xinhua news agency reported that the mudslide struck China's Gyirong port, disrupting roads, communications, and power in the Shigatse region without providing more details.
