Marathon world record holder Sabastian Sawe is injured and out of comeback run in Berlin

Berlin Marathon world record holder Sabastian Sawe has announced he will not be participating in the upcoming race due to an injury. Sawe, who previously broke the two-hour barrier, had been aiming to make a special return to competition in Berlin. He won the event last year and the city is known for hosting numerous records. In a statement, Sawe expressed his disappointment, saying, "It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you I am forced to withdraw from the BMW Berlin Marathon due to an injury."

The 31-year-old Kenyan did not specify the nature of his injury. Despite missing this significant race, Sawe remains committed to his goal of running clean and fast, following a series of doping cases among top Kenyan runners. The women's field for the Berlin Marathon includes Tigst Assefa, the Ethiopian runner who set a world record in 2023.
