Lower Manya Assembly supports PwDs with livelihood items

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly has provided over 30 Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) with livelihood support items, aiming to bolster their economic independence, raise incomes, and promote inclusive development. Funded by the Disability Fund of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), the items included plastic chairs, deep freezers, ice chests, mattresses, water, cooking oil, wheelchairs, and cassava grinders.

At a presentation ceremony, Municipal Chief Executive John Atteh Matey emphasized that the intervention was part of efforts to create opportunities for vulnerable community members and enhance their living conditions. This was the second batch of disability support items supplied since Matey's term began, with a third batch in the works.

Matey stressed that providing productive equipment to PwDs was an effective way to decrease poverty, boost household earnings, and discourage begging on the streets. He urged beneficiaries to use the items responsibly to establish sustainable livelihoods and support their families, rather than simply consuming the support. The MCE cautioned against selling the items and promised to monitor their use to ensure they were utilized as intended.

Beneficiary Isaac Partey Padi, a former Lower Manya Krobo President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the support, stating that a refrigerator received would aid in starting a business and increasing income. He welcomed the intervention, hoping it would benefit many PwDs in the municipality, but appealed for timely release of the Disability Fund to benefit more eligible individuals.
