Aszizi Ayub, a 37-year-old electrician, was acquitted by Ipoh Sessions Court of charges related to growing 253.4 grams of cannabis in his home. The case, which had been ongoing for three years, came to a close when the court found that the prosecution failed to prove prima facie against Aszizi. The judge, Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi, stated that after reviewing the arguments presented by both the prosecution and defense, the court concluded that the prosecution could not provide sufficient evidence to establish the charges against the defendant.

The incident occurred on July 31, 2023, around 8:30 PM in Taman Dato Leow Yan Sip, Kinta, where police discovered a pot of cannabis approximately 70 centimeters tall growing in a black plastic bag inside a room. Further inspection of the room revealed various items believed to be related to the drug activity, including a modified safety glass, a lighter, sealing tools, a weighing scale, colored paper, two knives, and empty plastic sheets used for storage.

Subsequently, police found a plastic bag containing dried cannabis seeds, two bottles containing a liquid chemical substance, a container with water, and measuring tools. Aszizi was charged under Section 6B(1)(c) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a minimum of six years if found guilty of cultivating cannabis.

The prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor S S Pavitra, while Aszizi was defended by counsel Keshvinder Singh, Sukhdave Singh, and Renver Singh.
