Kudus nearing Tottenham return as rehabilitation enters final phase

Ghanaian footballer Mohammed Kudus is making significant strides towards a return to Tottenham Hotspur, as his rehabilitation moves into the final phase, according to head coach Roberto De Zerbi. The 25-year-old left the field in January after sustaining a quadriceps injury during a Premier League game against Sunderland. Initially projected to miss around three months, Kudus’ recovery timeline was further extended following unforeseen complications that necessitated surgery - consequently, he missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, a tournament he was earmarked to feature prominently in for the Ghana national team.

After kicking off light individual training in early August, Kudus has demonstrated promising recovery, with De Zerbi expressing confidence in the forward nearing full fitness. "Kudus is almost ready; that is a big point for us," the coach remarked. Nevertheless, De Zerbi underscored the necessity for cautious handling in Kudus' return to competition.

"It’s important also the management of the players; when the players have some problem, we have to stay calm, don’t take risks," he cautioned. Tottenham football club remains optimistic that Kudus might rejoin the squad before the next international break, which commences following their home match against Aston Villa on September 19.

Prior to that, the team is set to entertain Nottingham Forest on September 5 and Everton on September 12, aiming to reintegrate Kudus, one of their crucial attacking assets, into their lineup.
