Karoline Leavitt Reflects on Final Day as Trump’s Press Secretary: ‘You Have to Make Sacrifices’

On Thursday, Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary, reflected on her final day within the Trump administration. She described her year-and-a-half tenure as "the adventure of a lifetime." Leavitt, who is 28, admitted that becoming a working mother motivated her to leave her role. "Every day as a working mother is a challenge," she said.

"You have to make sacrifices. You have to prioritize your time, and you have to say no to a lot of opportunities that come your way because you want to be there for bedtime with your kids every night." Leavitt gave birth to her second child in May, a turning point in her life. "Two children at home who deserve and need their mother's constant attention and presence … welcoming my daughter into this world in May, your heart changes as a mom — only mothers understand that."

Appointed as Trump's press secretary at the start of his second term, Leavitt was the youngest person ever to hold the position. She held the role for 585 days, the second-longest tenure of any press secretary in Trump's administration. "It has been the honor and blessing of my life to serve as his spokesperson. It has been the adventure of a lifetime," Leavitt said.

When she announced her departure earlier this month, it surprised both Trump's supporters and opponents. Leavitt is set to join MAGA Inc., a Trump-friendly super PAC, as her next role. She previously worked as a spokesperson for the PAC before joining Trump's 2024 presidential campaign. Her permanent replacement as press secretary has not yet been named, with conservative CNN commentator Scott Jennings being a potential candidate.
