John Boadu files nomination to contest NPP National Chairman position

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has submitted his formal nomination to vie for the party’s National Chairman position in preparation for the upcoming executive elections. Mr Boadu officially filed his candidacy at the NPP’s national headquarters in Accra on Thursday, August 27, surrounded by several influential party members, including the Members of Parliament for Fanteakwa, Trobu, and the Volta Regional Chairman.

The decision to enter the race for the National Chairman role, which has garnered significant attention ahead of the October 3 elections, follows a recent survey by Global InfoAnalytics that placed Boadu ahead of his main rivals. The poll, released on August 20, indicated that Boadu had secured 27% of the votes, followed by former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko with 15% and former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko with 10%.

However, 47% of respondents did not choose a preferred candidate, suggesting that undecided voters could still influence the outcome. Boadu also recorded the highest favorability rating among the three leading candidates, with 61% of respondents viewing him positively, compared to 12% who had an unfavorable view, resulting in a net favorability rating of 49%.

The survey further revealed that Boadu led his competitors in several regions, including Bono East, Greater Accra, North East, Northern, Upper East, and Central. Boakye Agyarko had a slight edge in Bono East, Greater Accra, and Central Regions, while Paul Afoko remained competitive in some regions, with 23%, 22%, and 21% support, respectively.

As the October 3 elections draw nearer, the survey offers insight into the current state of the race, but the substantial number of undecided voters leaves ample room for the candidates to shift the dynamics as their campaigns intensify.
