Joe Russo assigns "required viewing" of Endgame re-release to Doomsday moviegoers

Electric State director Joe Russo has a new task for moviegoers planning to watch Marvel's upcoming crossover event, Avengers: Doomsday. In celebration of the film, 2019's Avengers: Endgame is returning to theaters for an Encore version this fall. The new version has been upgraded for Disney's Infinity Vision format and includes a custom introduction, fresh footage, and a special end tag exclusive to Infinity Vision and IMAX releases.

Russo explains that this re-release is not merely a chance for viewers who've missed the non-Spider-Man parts of the MCU in the past seven years to catch up, but rather a requirement to fully understand Doomsday. "It's going to connect the story of the two movies," he tells Fandango. His brother, Anthony Russo, echoes this sentiment: "If you saw Endgame when it originally was released, you couldn't see this coming."

Both brothers direct Avengers: Doomsday, which was made without a script, leading to speculation about its accessibility. While some might prefer to watch one slightly longer superhero movie over the films Marvel has released in the meantime, Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday has already garnered $35 million in pre-sale tickets, making it the highest-grossing pre-sale ever.

With expectations of $300 million in its opening weekend, it seems those who purchase tickets early are the lucky ones getting the fall reading list.
