I spent a weekend playing Game of Thrones: War for Westeros — and the strategy game is the most faithful compnion the HBO series yet

Game of Thrones: War of Westeros is a fresh video game adaptation of the popular HBO series, standing out from previous titles that barely touched on the fantasy realm. This new strategy game finally delivers an authentic experience, putting players right in the midst of the Seven Kingdoms. House Stark and House Lannister are at the center of the action, as two of the most prominent families in George RR Martin's series.

Fans can also look forward to the White Walkers and the Targaryens, which will unlock in the full game set for 2027.

The game's commitment to staying true to the source material is evident in the way it handles faction representation. Stark players can utilize direwolves, while Lannister commanders can utilize gold mines to generate resources. These small, lore-accurate details help set Game of Thrones: War for Westeros apart from other fantasy strategy games.

For fans disappointed with the show's conclusion, the game offers a way to rewrite their own stories by controlling iconic characters like Robb Stark, Jon Snow, Tywin Lannister, and Jaime Lannister.
