Police said the attackers arrived on two motorcycles and fired several rounds at Balyan. He died at the spot.
Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Balyan was killed outside a gym in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district on Wednesday evening. The attackers, who arrived on two motorcycles, fired multiple rounds at Balyan as he left the gym. He died at the scene. The incident prompted protests by Balyan's family and supporters, who blocked a nearby road demanding the arrest of those responsible.
Police have formed several teams to investigate the motive behind the murder and have started examining CCTV footage from the area. The Samajwadi Party President has called the killing highly condemnable, citing a breakdown of law and order in the region. The Jat community, to which Balyan belonged, is demanding the arrest of the attackers, viewing the murder as an attack on their community.
Balyan, who had over 3.66 lakh subscribers on YouTube, was known for his Haryanvi songs that often depicted gun culture.
