Golf Channel cancels 'Big Break' reboot amid Good Good controversy

Golf Channel has decided to cancel its Big Break reboot in light of the controversy surrounding Good Good Golf. The issue arose on August 21, when Good Good posted an advertisement featuring their collaboration with Callaway. The ad showed Good Good's Garrett Clark shoving a woman to the ground, sparking widespread outrage from golf fans and social media users.

In response, various retailers like Golf Galaxy pulled Good Good's merchandise from their shelves, and Callaway ended their partnership with the brand. The controversy forced Golf Galaxy, the presenting sponsor of the first season of Big Break x Good Good, to request the removal of their branding from the show. Initially, Golf Channel postponed the premiere of the first episode to September 1, but now the entire season has been scrapped.

The PGA Tour announced that Good Good had withdrawn their title sponsorship of a new FedEx Cup Fall event in November, which was intended as the finale for the Big Break reboot. This event was scheduled to take place at the Omni Barton Creek Resort in Austin, Texas, but is now being rebranded as the Austin Championship. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp expressed concern over the advertisement and criticized Good Good's initial response to the backlash.

Good Good CEO Garrett Clark released a nearly 9-minute video apologizing for the ad in response to the widespread backlash. Despite the cancellation, Golf Channel still plans to bring back Big Break next year, acknowledging the disappointment of the 12 competitors, production team, and passionate fans. The show has been on-air since 2003, with the last season airing in 2015.
