American Airlines is set to expand its European reach with the announcement of six new routes, including two cities it has never flown to before. The airline's latest route additions were revealed just two days after United Airlines launched its own set of new European routes for 2027. The new destinations span across the continent, with flights to Porto and Vienna marking American's inaugural service to both cities.

The first flights to Porto will commence on March 28, while Vienna will see its first American arrival on May 6. Both routes will be operated using the Airbus A321XLR, an aircraft that has enabled American to reach long-haul destinations previously inaccessible due to insufficient passenger demand. Additionally, American is reintroducing a fourth daily flight from New York JFK to London Heathrow, a route previously operated until 2019.

The airline is capitalizing on what it describes as the growing trend of "coolcations," where travelers seek cooler destinations to escape the heat of summer, prompting the return of flights to Reykjavik, which had been absent since 2019. Tickets for the new routes will be available starting Monday, allowing travelers to plan their European vacations amidst a surge of new international routes announced by American.
