GCC leads globally in cybersecurity, says Jassem Al-Budaiwi

Jassem Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), has declared that GCC nations have established a leading global position in cybersecurity. This assertion was made during the fifth meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Cybersecurity held in Manama, Bahrain. Al-Budaiwi emphasized the progress achieved by GCC countries through the enhancement of national capabilities, data protection, the safeguarding of digital infrastructure, and the fortification of responses to cyber threats.

During the meeting, Al-Budaiwi noted that recent developments in the region had demonstrated the high readiness of the Gulf states' cybersecurity systems. This readiness is attributed to ongoing coordination and proactive measures taken by the GCC member states. The Secretary-General also highlighted several key achievements in joint efforts among the GCC countries.

These include the implementation of the GCC Cybersecurity Strategy for the period of 2024-2028, an international cooperation framework, a threat information sharing mechanism, and the annual organization of cybersecurity exercises across the GCC region.

This strategy represents a significant step in ensuring the region's digital security and resilience against cyber threats. Additionally, the GCC-wide cybersecurity exercises, organized annually, serve as a practical platform for member states to test their cybersecurity capabilities and improve their responses to potential threats.
