Former CJ Mutunga, Kigame, Mwangi call for Ruto’s resignation during Katiba@16 celebrations

Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, presidential hopeful Reuben Kigame, Ukweli Party's Boniface Mwangi, and Shadrack Oketch of the Nyorosha Katiba Initiative called for President William Ruto to resign during celebrations marking 16 years since the promulgation of Kenya's 2010 Constitution. The four spoke at Jeevanjee Gardens in Nairobi on Thursday, criticizing the government's failure to uphold and implement the Constitution.

They urged Kenyans to use the 2027 General Election to elect leaders who are committed to protecting and upholding the country's supreme law, emphasizing that the Constitution remains crucial for safeguarding citizens' rights and limiting state power. Kigame, Mwangi, Mutunga, and Oketch urged Kenyans to remain vigilant in demanding constitutional principles from political leaders and to actively participate in the electoral process, scrutinizing candidates' records and manifestos in the 2027 election.

The calls for Ruto's resignation come amid growing political debate over the Constitution's implementation, governance, and accountability as Kenya approaches the next General Election. The group believes the 2027 election offers voters the chance to choose leaders who prioritize constitutionalism, accountability, and protection of fundamental rights.
