Fenerbahce silence Lyon while Viking Stavanger reach Champions League for first time

Paris, Aug 27 - Fenerbahce secured their place in the Champions League league phase with a 2-1 victory over Lyon, thanks to goals from Vedat Muriqi and Archie Brown. The Turkish side had already secured a 2-0 lead from the first leg in Istanbul, and they continued their dominance in the second leg in southeastern France. Belgian winger Malick Fofana inspired Lyon, but offside decisions denied goals to Lois Openda and Kail Boudache.

AEK Athens triumphed 4-0 against Levski Sofia, with Barnabas Varga scoring twice and Luka Jovic netting another. The Greek side advanced with a 5-3 aggregate win following a 0-0 draw in the first leg. Viking Stavanger outplayed Dinamo Zagreb 3-1 to reach the group phase for the first time, finishing the match 5-3 on aggregate. Dinamo took an early lead through Arber Hoxha, but Zlatko Tripic equalised from the penalty spot.

Edvin Austbo and Tobias Moi scored twice in quick succession to secure Viking's progress. Slovan Bratislava completed a remarkable comeback with a 3-2 aggregate victory over Slovan Bratislava, scoring the winning goal in extra time. The Slovakians, who finished second from bottom in the league phase last season, will now compete in the group phase for the second consecutive season.
