FCTA, FRSC begin enforcement on traffic light, route violations in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has teamed up with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to crack down on traffic violations in Abuja. Mr Chinedum Elechi, the Mandate Secretary of FCTA Transportation Secretariat, announced this during a press conference. Taskforces will patrol and arrest offenders, with the FCTA confident in their collaboration with the FRSC and other agencies.

The expansion of the FCT road network due to the urban renewal programme has led to an increase in disregarding traffic rules, prompting the enforcement exercise. Targets include ignoring traffic lights and control devices, route violations, and unauthorized use of restricted routes. Motorists are urged to obey traffic rules, use designated routes, and park only in approved areas.

The FCT Sector Commander of FRSC, Corps Commander Tijjani Iliyasu, highlighted the dangers of excessive overloading, traffic light violations, and driving against traffic, emphasizing that enforcement is aimed at promoting safety rather than harassing law-abiding motorists.
