Banjir Nepal: 55 rakyat Malaysia belum dapat dikesan

A total of 55 Malaysian citizens are reported to be missing following severe flooding in Nepal, although their exact number has not been confirmed by the authorities. The information was received from travel agencies and is being collected and cross-checked by the Malaysian consulate in Kathmandu. Mohamad Hasan, the Foreign Minister, spoke to reporters about the situation.

He stated that they have tried contacting the missing individuals but have received no responses, so their names have been entered into a list of the missing, and rescue efforts are underway. The rescues are facing difficulties due to road blockages, collapsed roads, and damaged bridges. The ministry in Nepal is also conducting a SAR (Search and Rescue) operation to locate the missing persons.

The foreign minister noted that recent reports from the Malaysian consulate in Kathmandu and the Nepalese foreign ministry indicate that the floods are as severe as an inland tsunami, causing numerous deaths and many people still missing. In related developments, the minister said that Malaysia has sent additional staff from Dhaka, Bangladesh to Kathmandu to assist the Malaysian consulate in managing the situation.

These additional staff will help monitor developments, coordinate aid for Malaysian citizens, and deal with Nepalese rescue teams. The additional staff were sent from Dhaka because it is only about an hour's flight to Kathmandu from there. Regarding the possibility of Malaysia sending physical aid, including rescue teams, Mohamad said that decision would be made by the National Safety Council (NSC).

He expressed sympathy and condolences to the families of the Malaysian citizens who are still missing or unaccounted for. "I want to convey my admiration and sympathy to all families of Malaysian citizens who are still missing or unaccounted for," he said.
