European franchise a question for NFL - Belichick

Bill Belichick, the six-time Super Bowl winning head coach of the New England Patriots, recently stated that the idea of a European franchise in the NFL is a question for the league. He spoke in Dublin before the American College Classic between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Texas Christian University, marking the opening round of the season.

Belichick, who took over as head coach of UNC in 2025, said that while the NFL is intent on building a global brand through its scheduling, the 32 franchises are currently all located in the United States. Belichick expressed enthusiasm for international games, noting the tremendous excitement surrounding them. He also highlighted that the Jacksonville Jaguars had previously considered relocating to London and Wembley, but ultimately decided to build a new stadium in Florida.

Despite the travel involved, Belichick believes that a European franchise could be developed, though it would be a bit of an adjustment. He emphasized the importance of giving back to the sport that has been good to him and his family, stating that he wants to be part of the growth of American football internationally.
