EU Commissioner Marta Kos Vows to Advance Ukraine’s EU Accession Process

European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, pledged ongoing EU assistance to Ukraine, emphasizing progress towards the nation's EU membership, according to UATV English. The statement came after a conversation between Kos and Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi on August 27, during which they discussed reforms, Ukraine's financial needs, and the country's EU integration efforts.

The EU Commissioner noted that the talks centered on reforms necessary for Ukraine's path towards EU membership, as well as the country's financial requirements for the upcoming months. Despite ongoing attacks, Kos highlighted that Ukraine remains committed to its European ambitions. She stressed that the European Union would continue providing support for Ukraine's immediate financial, energy, and defense requirements while advancing the accession process.

In response, Prime Minister Koretskyi assured Kos that Ukraine will expedite the legislative process required for European integration. The Ukrainian government and parliament are working diligently to expedite the adoption of legislation mandated by Ukraine's EU membership commitments and the Ukraine Facility.

The two officials also addressed financing concerns. Prime Minister Koretskyi stressed the urgency of securing sufficient resources for Ukraine's budgetary and defense expenditures in 2026-2027. The European Commission had previously announced plans to approve new decisions and make additional payments to bolster Ukraine's defense needs in the coming weeks.
