Enhanced insurance coverage under CMCHIS to be implemented soon: Tamil Nadu Minister Arunraj

Tamil Nadu Health Minister K.G. Arunraj announced on Wednesday that the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) will soon increase coverage from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh. Existing insurance cards will remain valid, and no new cards will be issued. Arunraj assured that the premium increase will not be substantial despite the higher coverage, as the demand for advanced treatment and claims is expected to be lower.

Additional funds will be allocated to support this expansion. Arunraj also mentioned plans to expand in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) centres to more district government hospitals, a move already underway in the budget. He addressed concerns about H1N1 influenza and dengue, stating that the public should not worry as the situation differs from last year, with infections now reported from May to July due to increased fever testing.

Arunraj emphasized precautionary measures, particularly during the monsoon season, to prevent water stagnation and dengue transmission by Aedes mosquitoes. Fever camps will be organized for school students, and those with fever-like symptoms should seek immediate medical attention at government hospitals or primary health centres.

Additionally, two lecture halls at Madras Medical College were recently renovated, one with support from the Rotary Club and the other using government funds. The renovated halls are equipped with modern facilities, including digital LED panel projection systems and acoustic panelling, to enhance the learning experience for medical students.
