On August 27th, part of the roof of Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian's family home was damaged due to strong winds during heavy rain in Kuching. The incident took place around 5pm while Dr Sim was attending a meeting in Bintulu. His wife, who was at home alone at the time, attempted to contact him but he did not notice as his phone was set to silent mode.
Upon returning to Kuching, Dr Sim was informed by his son that the roof had been blown off. Upon confirmation, he expressed concern for his wife's safety, but was reassured that she was unharmed. Dr Sim flew back to Kuching, arriving at 7:45pm, where his family remained at the house while repairs were made to the damaged roof. Sarawak Energy Berhad personnel were present to ensure the safety of the house's electricity supply and installations.
The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng, visited the affected residence along with other homes impacted by the strong winds.
