Defence minister: Malaysia ready to deploy humanitarian aid to flood-hit Nepal

KUALA LUMPUR, August 27 — The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) is prepared to lend assistance to Nepal, which is enduring severe flash floods caused by an earthquake, the Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin announced today. Speaking to reporters after the National Day celebrations at the Defence Ministry, Mohamed Khaled highlighted that the MAF is willing to contribute its expertise and capabilities, should the government decide to deploy humanitarian aid.

However, he advised journalists to seek further information regarding the missing Malaysian tourists from the Foreign Ministry.

The earthquake that struck Nepal on Wednesday triggered devastating flash floods, claiming the lives of nearly 157 individuals in the Himalayan region. The disaster has also left hundreds of foreign tourists stranded, with damaged communications and infrastructure creating significant obstacles for rescue operations. As of last night, the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu's charge d’affaires, Mohd Firdaus Azman, informed Bernama that over 50 Malaysian travelers remain unreachable since the incident.
