Death toll nears 400 as rescuers search for 1,400 missing after Nepal-Tibet floods

More than 1,400 people are currently missing and 362 have been confirmed dead following flash floods and landslides along the Nepal-Tibet border. These figures are expected to change, a common occurrence following major disasters due to double-counting, body matching, and the chaos of catastrophes. Here's the latest on the missing individuals:

In total, at least 1,468 people are unaccounted for. Nepal's disaster agency reported that 910 people were missing as of Thursday, including at least 517 foreigners. Meanwhile, China stated that 558 people were missing, including 260 foreigners. Combined, the total missing across both borders amounts to 1,468.

According to Nepal's tourism board, there were 667 missing tourists and travelers, including 127 Nepali visitors and 24 Chinese nationals. These numbers do not include the total number of Nepali residents who may be unaccounted for.

India reported 178 missing people from its country, with 11 having been rescued. The United States had 90 citizens missing, with three rescues and no known US fatalities. Australia reported 34 missing individuals, while the United Kingdom had 33 missing people.

Canada reported 25 missing Canadians, and South Korea acknowledged 9 hydropower workers missing in the Rasuwa district. Singapore had 9 unaccounted-for Singaporeans, Germany reported 8 missing German citizens, and Russia had 8 unaccounted-for Russians and 2 rescues.

Other nationalities include South Africa with 6 missing, Latvia with 6, Japan with 5, New Zealand with 5, France with 4, Spain with 4 (three confirmed), Belgium with 3, Hungary with 3, Portugal with 3 (one confirmed), and Israel with 1. Lithuania had 1 missing, while Sweden had 2, including one unidentified foreigner, and Finland had 1.

Additionally, Switzerland and Bulgaria reported one each, while eight people with unconfirmed nationalities were rescued.
