CAAM air traffic officer dies after falling under car in Tawau crash

Tawau: A 55-year-old Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia air traffic control officer lost his life after losing control of his motorcycle and striking a car at Batu 3, Jalan Apas on Tuesday evening. The victim sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Tawau Hospital medical personnel. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Mat Jusoh reported that both vehicles were traveling in the same direction.

The Toyota Camry, driven by a 28-year-old man, was moving from Kampung Titingan towards Batu Payung, while the victim's motorcycle was heading from Tawau town towards Taman Millennium. As the Camry passed the traffic light at Batu Hijau junction, the motorcycle on its right side allegedly lost balance due to an uneven road surface, which had been recently resurfaced and was higher than the unpaved left lane.

The victim's loss of balance led to his motorcycle becoming wedged under the front of the Toyota Camry, and the driver was unable to brake in time, resulting in the victim's death. The car's driver was unharmed, and the victim's body was sent to Tawau Hospital for a post-mortem examination, scheduled for 9 am on the same day. The incident is under investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
