ANC to finalise councillor candidates for local elections

The African National Congress (ANC) is finalizing its list of councillor candidates for the upcoming local elections. Senior ANC officials are meeting as part of a Special National Executive Committee to ratify and adopt the final list of candidates before submitting it to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). The ANC has until the end of business on Friday to submit their list for the November polls.

ANC spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu confirmed that their candidate pool includes over 10,000 ward councillor candidates, with a total of 6,000 party-list candidates. Bhengu emphasized that the candidate list is balanced in terms of gender representation, ensuring meaningful, substantive, and descriptive representation of women and young people.
