In a memorandum to officials, AIDYO district secretary Jagadeesh Nemakalu stated that the library is visited daily by hundreds of people, including students and senior citizens, many of whom are job aspirants preparing for competitive examinations.
The organisation noted that many individuals lack a suitable environment for studying at home and rely on public libraries. However, the library remains closed on holidays, including Mondays, the second Tuesday, the fourth Saturday, and government holidays. This discontinuity hinders the continuity of studies and preparation for recruitment exams, Nemakalu explained.
AIDYO and the readers forum pointed out that students without access to public libraries often turn to private libraries, which charge exorbitant monthly fees. Such costs are unaffordable for unemployed youth and job aspirants. Therefore, AIDYO and the forum have requested authorities to keep public libraries open on holidays, allowing uninterrupted study.
