3 people arrested for fighting after elderly woman filmed slapping 5-year-old girl in Kwun Tong mall

Three women were arrested following an altercation at an APM mall in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong, on August 26, 2026. The incident came to light after a video went viral, showing an elderly woman slapping a five-year-old girl in the mall's play area. According to the police, the 68-year-old woman was the grandmother of the boy involved in the dispute.

The altercation began around 4:45 pm when the boy and the girl reportedly had a disagreement over the play installations. The video showed the girl being shoved and then slapped across the face by the older woman, who was wearing a red top. The police confirmed that the grandmother was the mother of the boy and the grandmother of the girl.

Another woman joined in the fight by hitting the elderly woman, and the boy's mother also participated in the scuffle. A man tried to calm the situation, while another bystander confronted the grandmother, accusing her of hitting a child. Both the girl and the two younger women sustained minor injuries and were taken to United Christian Hospital for treatment.

The girl and her mother were from mainland China and held dual permits for travel to and from Hong Kong.
