2027: ‘Core North embracing Atiku first time in his political career’ – El-Rufai’s son

Bashir, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has revealed that core Northerners are now beginning to support the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar. This marks the first time in Atiku's political career that he has garnered such acceptance from the core North. Bashir shared his thoughts on the matter via a post on X, stating, "Atiku is gaining traction in the North.

For the first time in his political career, he is being embraced by the core North, in part because of his mantra of being the most detribalised, historically, of the bunch."

The former governor's son also believes that Atiku's proposal to end the fuel subsidy is causing a stir within the government. He added, "That calculus could be the game-changer. They are rattled. This subsidy debate forged by Atiku forms a perfect narrative to the realities on the ground." Bashir's interactions with his father provide insight into the impact of Atiku's rhetoric and policies.

He remarked, "When I visit my father, I always leave truly amazed by how it is we, on the outside, that are bothered. His resilience, uplifting spirit and usual banter hit in a profound way."
