Woman dead after police shooting in Calgary, gas line ruptured

A woman died in southeastern Calgary following an officer-involved shooting, according to police. The incident began when officers were dispatched to a residence for a welfare check early in the morning. Approximately an hour later, the woman emerged from the home carrying a weapon, leading to an escalation in the situation. An officer discharged a shot, resulting in the woman's death.

As the confrontation unfolded, a gas meter was reported to have ruptured. In response, police assisted in the evacuation of nearby homes impacted by the gas leak. Two officers were involved in the incident; one was taken to the hospital as a precaution, while the other was evaluated by medical personnel.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
