Activists urge CEO to go easy on name and age anomalies

Civil society representatives have penned a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, C. Sudharshan Reddy, requesting a transparent and democratic approach to the Special Intensive Revision of the Electoral Rolls. Activists S.Q. Masood, Meera Sangamitra, Khalida Parveen, Deepthi S., Rachana Mudraboyina, A. Suneetha, and others have urged the CEO to refrain from issuing notices concerning minor discrepancies in names and ages.

These inaccuracies accounted for 60-70% of the erroneous entries in the 2002 records, primarily due to errors by data entry operators. The activists also highlighted the insufficient response period given to electors, urging at least a week's notice from the date of notice delivery. They emphasized the need for acknowledgment or receipt upon document submission and requested transparent hearings with documented evidence for all rejections.

Additionally, the CEO was asked to ensure formal acknowledgments/receipts are provided post-document submission and to maintain transparency in new voter registrations and deletions. All comments must be in English and written in full sentences, without abusive or personal language.
