Why I resigned from NFF fact-finding committee – Amun

Former Nigeria Football Federation General Secretary, Fanny Amun, resigned from the federation’s fact-finding committee shortly after submitting its report, aiming to safeguard the impartiality of the findings, according to The PUNCH. At a press conference at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos State, Amun explained that he completed the assignment ahead of the two-week deadline set by the NFF to prevent the committee's conclusions from being altered or influenced before they reached the federation.

Amun emphasized his commitment to ensuring the report's integrity, stating that he informed all committee members, including himself, that it would only take one week. The NFF had established the fact-finding committee in August 2026, following a series of disappointing results from Nigeria's national teams, with a focus on the underperforming Super Falcons.

The committee, chaired by Amun alongside other former football officials, was tasked with investigating the causes of recent poor performances across Nigeria's national teams and proposing recommendations to address the challenges in the sport. Despite the committee's mandate extending to various aspects of the national teams' struggles, Amun criticized the NFF’s electoral statutes, which exempted serving board members from the anti-corruption screening required of other contestants.

He called for these statutes to be revised to subject all contestants, including current board members, to ethical screenings and asset declarations. Amun also expressed concerns about the welfare of players, coaches, and federation staff, alleging discrepancies in allowances received during foreign trips by board members while players and coaches received limited benefits.

He noted that some long-serving staff remained on temporary contracts despite their decades of service. Amun thanked NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and the federation’s leadership for the opportunity to serve, stating that his resignation as the chairman was effective immediately. He confirmed that the report had been sent to the NFF, FIFA, CAF, the National Sports Commission, and other security agencies, but the federation had not yet released it publicly.
