We are solidly behind you – Christian Council rallies support for Ghana Medical Trust Fund

The Christian Council of Ghana has pledged its unwavering support for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), vowing to mobilize churches and communities across the nation to aid its mission of providing critical medical care to those who cannot afford it. Rev. Dr Cyril G. K. Fayose, Executive Secretary of the Council, affirmed that the Council views the Trust Fund's work as an extension of the Christian duty to care for the sick and alleviate human suffering.

During a meeting with GMTF leaders, Rev. Dr Fayose stated that the Council has "caught up" with the Trust Fund and will provide its full backing "through and through." He emphasized that the Fund's mission embodies the healing ministry of Jesus Christ and the Christian obligation to assist those in distress. The Council was consulted in the creation of the GMTF, and Rev.

Dr Fayose lauded its Administrator, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, for the progress made in its first year. He highlighted success stories of patients receiving life-saving treatment through the Fund, underscoring the need for churches, corporations, philanthropists, and individuals to support its work. Administrator Darko-Opoku explained that the initiative was born from the belief that no Ghanaian should perish due to financial constraints in accessing necessary medical care.

She pointed out the financial strain on families who deplete their savings or postpone treatment because of costs, stating that the GMTF aims to close the gap where timely financial assistance could have made a difference. Ms. Darko-Opoku emphasized the Council's role as a strategic partner due to its extensive reach and long-standing commitment to healthcare and social development.

She urged churches to engage their congregations in fundraising and to promote a culture where saving lives is a collective responsibility. She challenged the Christian community to ensure that if anyone among them requires life-saving medical care and cannot afford it, the Church will not stand idly by. Darko-Opoku clarified that the GMTF is meant to complement existing healthcare financing structures and not replace them, focusing on bridging gaps that prevent vulnerable Ghanaians from accessing specialized treatment.
