Vice President interacts with Ghanaian community in Rwanda

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang met with members of the Ghanaian community in Rwanda, listening to their concerns and discussing government initiatives aimed at improving their lives. During the engagement, she emphasized that the government's development agenda prioritized ensuring that national progress benefited the majority of citizens, rather than concentrating benefits among the wealthy.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang addressed the challenging economic conditions facing the nation, including high inflation, currency pressures, and significant debt. She outlined government efforts to stabilize the economy, reduce debt, and allocate public resources to critical areas such as infrastructure development, healthcare, and education.

In healthcare, the Vice President stressed the importance of preventive care, particularly in managing chronic conditions, and the need to equip hospitals with essential facilities and equipment to enhance service delivery. She also highlighted plans to improve educational infrastructure in primary schools and provide students with science and vocational equipment.

To enhance educational opportunities, the Vice President called for greater recognition of technical and vocational education, advocating for a more diverse secondary education system that enables young people to pursue career paths aligned with their interests and abilities.

She urged Ghanaian expatriates living abroad to register with Ghanaian diplomatic missions, stating that this would facilitate the government's ability to track its citizens and better understand their needs. Ghana's High Commissioner to Rwanda, Ernest Yaw Amporful, reiterated the government's commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians abroad and acknowledged the significant contributions made by the diaspora to national development.

Ambassador Amporful commended the Ghanaian community in Rwanda for maintaining a positive image of Ghana and contributing to Rwanda's progress through various professional, entrepreneurial, and community activities. He reaffirmed the mission's commitment to providing consular assistance and safeguarding Ghanaian interests in Rwanda.

Samuel Abban, President of the Ghanaian Community in Rwanda, expressed gratitude to the Vice President for engaging with the community and listening to their experiences, concerns, and aspirations. He also praised the High Commissioner for his support and open-door policy towards the Ghanaian community, urging members to continue upholding the country's reputation abroad and strengthening the longstanding friendship between Ghana and Rwanda.
