US sanctions Palestine Action and other 'far-left groups' over alleged support for terrorism

In a move targeting far-left extremism, the United States has imposed sanctions on Palestine Action, Autistici Inventati, and Masar Badil. The Treasury Department designated Palestine Action as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, alleging it supports terrorism since July 2020, such as breaching British military facilities. Britain labeled Palestine Action a terrorist organization last year after demonstrations at Israeli-linked establishments.

Despite initial legal challenges, the UK court upheld the ban, with the Supreme Court set to review the case. The sanctions cut these groups off from the US financial system and freeze their assets. The move aims to curb rising far-left political violence and highlights a strategic shift in addressing extremism. US officials have designated other European far-left groups as foreign terrorist organizations, offering rewards for information on their financing.
