Umahi Visits Benin-Agbor-Asaba Road after Commuters’ Gruelling Experiences

Federal Minister of Works, David Umahi, visited the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road yesterday to address the hardships faced by motorists and commuters on the crucial corridor. President Bola Tinubu had directed the Federal Ministry of Works to intervene urgently to restore movement on the deteriorating road. Umahi expressed concern over the hardship being endured by road users and assured the government's commitment to provide immediate relief while pursuing permanent solutions.

Upon his arrival in Benin, Edo State, Umahi met with representatives of the Edo and Delta State Governments, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and other stakeholders to devise measures to tackle the crisis. He apologized to those affected by the poor condition of the road, acknowledging the severe hardship caused by the situation.

The minister noted that the intervention on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba corridor would not be limited to temporary repairs, emphasizing that the government's actions would also yield lasting solutions. The visit followed the formal flag-off of the 56.5-kilometre Ibadan-Ijebu Ode dualisation project in Oyo State, which marked the end of temporary fixes on strategic federal highways.

Umahi highlighted that the project would unlock agricultural and commercial opportunities, reduce travel time, and improve security along the Lagos-Ogun-Oyo axis.

The Ibadan-Ijebu Ode dualisation, awarded to JRB Construction Limited, aims to strengthen a significant economic link between Oyo and Ogun states. Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, representing Tinubu at the ceremony, described the project as an essential economic connection between the two states, emphasizing the federal government's commitment to delivering durable infrastructure for improved transportation and economic growth.
